प्रतिशत के word problems में calculation अक्सर आसान होती है, लेकिन सही setup बनाना मुश्किल लग सकता है। Question में दी गई language को part, whole, percentage, change और base value में बदलना सीख लें, तो ऐसे सवाल काफी आसान हो जाते हैं।

हर question में तुरंत formula लगाने की कोशिश न करें। पहले यह समझें कि दिया क्या है और निकालना क्या है। यही habit SSC और दूसरी competitive exams में careless mistakes कम करती है।

Word Problem हल करने का 4-Step Method

Percentage word problem देखते ही यह sequence follow करें:

  1. Question पढ़ें और important values पहचानें।
  2. Relation पहचानें — part, whole, increase, decrease या comparison।
  3. सही base value चुनें।
  4. Formula या आसान calculation method लगाएँ।

इसे छोटे रूप में याद रख सकते हैं:

Words → Relation → Base → Calculation

Part और Whole कैसे पहचानें?

अगर question किसी total group के एक हिस्से के बारे में है, तो total value whole होती है और उसका हिस्सा part होता है।

उदाहरण: किसी class में 120 students हैं और 40% girls हैं। Girls कितनी हैं?

यहाँ:

  • Whole = 120
  • Percentage = 40%
  • Part = girls की संख्या

Girls = 40/100 × 120 = 48

जब Percentage और Whole दिए हों

अगर total value और percentage दिए हैं, तो required part निकालने के लिए:

Part = Percentage/100 × Whole

उदाहरण: एक school में 400 students हैं। 35% students cricket खेलते हैं।

Cricket खेलने वाले students:

35/100 × 400 = 140

जब Part और Percentage दिए हों

कई questions में part दिया होता है लेकिन total value नहीं दी होती।

उदाहरण: 48 students किसी class के 60% हैं। Total students कितने हैं?

60% of Total = 48

Total = 48 × 100/60 = 80

यहाँ 48 को total मान लेना common mistake होगी।

जब पूछा जाए “कितने प्रतिशत?”

अगर part और whole दोनों दिए हैं:

Percentage = Part/Whole × 100

उदाहरण: 80 students में 52 students पास हुए।

Percentage passed = 52/80 × 100 = 65%

Increase वाले Word Problems

Increase question में पहले original value और increase amount पहचानें।

उदाहरण: किसी product की price ₹800 से बढ़कर ₹920 हो गई। Percentage increase निकालिए।

Increase = 920 - 800 = ₹120

Percentage increase:

120/800 × 100 = 15%

Denominator में ₹800 आएगा क्योंकि वही original value है।

Decrease वाले Word Problems

उदाहरण: किसी item की price ₹600 से घटकर ₹510 हो गई।

Decrease = 600 - 510 = ₹90

Percentage decrease:

90/600 × 100 = 15%

Increase और decrease दोनों में base सामान्यतः original value होती है।

Reverse Percentage Questions

Reverse percentage में final value दी होती है और original value निकालनी होती है।

उदाहरण: 20% increase के बाद salary ₹36,000 हो गई। Original salary क्या थी?

Increase के बाद final salary original की 120% है।

Original salary:

36,000 × 100/120 = ₹30,000

Final value से सीधे 20% घटाना सही reverse method नहीं है।

“More Than” वाले Questions

उदाहरण: A की income B की income से 25% अधिक है। अगर B की income ₹20,000 है, तो A की income कितनी है?

25% of 20,000 = ₹5,000

A की income = 20,000 + 5,000 = ₹25,000

यहाँ B की income base value है।

“Less Than” वाले Questions

उदाहरण: एक product की नई price पुरानी price से 15% कम है। Old price ₹2,000 है। New price क्या होगी?

15% of 2,000 = ₹300

New price = 2,000 - 300 = ₹1,700

More Than और Less Than Reverse क्यों नहीं होते?

अगर A, B से 25% अधिक है, तो B, A से 25% कम नहीं होता।

B = 100 मानें।

A = 125

अब B, A से कितना कम है:

25/125 × 100 = 20%

Comparison की direction बदलने पर base value भी बदल जाती है।

“Remaining” वाले Questions

Remaining शब्द दिखे तो पहले used, sold, passed या removed portion निकालना जरूरी नहीं होता। कई बार complement method तेज होता है।

उदाहरण: किसी library की 35% books issue हो गईं। कितने percent books remaining हैं?

Remaining percentage = 100% - 35% = 65%

अगर total books 800 हों, तो remaining books:

65/100 × 800 = 520

Successive Percentage Change वाले Questions

दो percentage changes को हमेशा सीधे add या subtract नहीं किया जा सकता।

उदाहरण: किसी price में पहले 20% increase और फिर 10% decrease हुआ। Original price ₹1,000 थी।

20% increase के बाद:

1,000 × 1.20 = ₹1,200

फिर 10% decrease:

1,200 × 0.90 = ₹1,080

Original ₹1,000 से final ₹1,080 है, इसलिए net increase 8% है।

Marks और Exam Score वाले Questions

Percentage questions marks और scores के context में भी पूछे जाते हैं।

उदाहरण: एक student ने 500 में से 365 marks प्राप्त किए। Percentage निकालिए।

365/500 × 100 = 73%

यहाँ obtained marks part हैं और maximum marks whole हैं।

Population वाले Percentage Questions

उदाहरण: किसी town की population 25,000 है और अगले वर्ष 8% बढ़ती है।

Increase = 8/100 × 25,000 = 2,000

New population = 27,000

अगर अगले वर्ष फिर percentage change हो, तो नया percentage 27,000 पर लगेगा।

Discount वाले Questions

Percentage की यही logic discount questions में भी काम करती है।

उदाहरण: एक shirt का marked price ₹1,500 है और 20% discount मिलता है।

Discount = 20/100 × 1,500 = ₹300

Selling price = 1,500 - 300 = ₹1,200

Question Language में किन Words पर ध्यान दें?

इन words को देखकर relation पहचानने की आदत डालें:

  • of — किसी value का हिस्सा;
  • out of — part और total का relation;
  • more than — base से increase;
  • less than — base से decrease;
  • increased by — amount या percentage बढ़ी;
  • decreased by — amount या percentage घटी;
  • increased to — final value दी गई है;
  • remaining — अक्सर 100% से complement;
  • what percent of — part/whole comparison।

Common Word-Problem Mistakes

  • Original value की जगह final value को denominator बनाना।
  • Part और whole को उल्टा करना।
  • “increased by” और “increased to” को एक जैसा पढ़ना।
  • More than और less than को reverse करते समय वही percentage रखना।
  • Successive percentage changes को सीधे जोड़ना।
  • Question actual value पूछ रहा हो और answer सिर्फ percentage में देना।

Worked Example 1: Class Strength

किसी class में 45% students girls हैं। Girls की संख्या 36 है। Total students कितने हैं?

45% of Total = 36

Total = 36 × 100/45 = 80

Worked Example 2: Price Increase

एक item की price ₹1,250 से बढ़कर ₹1,400 हो गई। Percentage increase निकालिए।

Increase = ₹150

150/1,250 × 100 = 12%

Worked Example 3: Reverse Discount

20% discount के बाद किसी item की price ₹960 है। Marked price निकालिए।

₹960 original marked price का 80% है।

Marked price = 960 × 100/80 = ₹1,200

Worked Example 4: Remaining Quantity

एक warehouse में 1,200 units थीं। 35% units बेच दी गईं। कितनी units बचीं?

Remaining percentage = 65%

65/100 × 1,200 = 780 units

Quick Practice

  1. 400 students में 35% cricket खेलते हैं। संख्या निकालिए।
  2. 48 students किसी class के 60% हैं। Total strength निकालिए।
  3. ₹800 से ₹920 होने पर percentage increase निकालिए।
  4. ₹2,000 में 15% decrease के बाद नई value निकालिए।
  5. 25% increase के बाद value 750 है। Original value निकालिए।
  6. 500 marks में 385 marks मिलने पर percentage निकालिए।
  7. 40% items sold हों, तो remaining percentage कितना होगा?
  8. 20% increase और फिर 10% decrease का net effect निकालिए।

Word Problems की Practice कैसे करें?

शुरुआत में timer की जरूरत नहीं है। पहले हर question में base value और required quantity लिखें। जब setup consistently सही होने लगे, तब calculation speed पर काम करें।

गलत question को सिर्फ दोबारा solve न करें। यह भी लिखें कि mistake कहाँ हुई: question reading, base selection, formula या calculation में।
